About Silver

Silver has long been valued as a precious metal and is one of the seven metals of antiquity: gold, copper, tin, lead, iron and mercury being the others. Silver has been used by man since prehistoric times and at some points in history is was even more sought after and valuable than gold. In folklore, silver was thought to have mystic powers: for example, a silver bullet is supposed to be the only weapon that is effective against a werewolf. Silver is a soft, white, lustrous metal, it exhibits the highest electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and reflectivity of any metal. Silver is used in the manufacture of high-end electronics, jewelry, high value tableware (silverware) and many other applications. Silver compounds are often used as disinfectants and microbiocides.

Sterling Silver is 92.5% silver with alloying agents to make it stronger than pure silver. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925. Alloyed silver have been used by artisans for many millennium to produce fine jewelry, coins and other items of high value. Around 1200 A.D., Sterling Silver was subject to official assay.

Silver is an excellent material for a comb. Unlike wood, plastic or carbon fiber-filled resing, a silver comb will last for many generations with just a little care. Silver forms a natural patina depending on the environment it is in and can always be polished to maintain a bright finish. To keep your silver comb looking naturally beautiful, simply wipe it clean with a cloth and some mild soap and water.
